If you’re planning to take the July bar exam, especially if this is your first time, you’re probably starting to think: It’s April . . . what should I be doing right now?
Here are a few key steps to set yourself up for success.
Make sure you’re registered.
This is non-negotiable. Check your jurisdiction’s deadline and confirm you’ve submitted everything. Every cycle, a few people realize too late they missed it. Don’t let that be you.
Protect some downtime before bar prep begins.
If you’re still in law school, you’re heading into finals and graduation, congratulations. That’s a huge accomplishment. But bar prep starts almost immediately after. Try to carve out even a little time now to rest and celebrate. Set expectations with friends and family that your availability will be limited once studying begins.
Get clear on your bar prep plan.
If you’ve already signed up for a course, excellent. Make sure you know your schedule, including any live classes or support resources. Check if your law school offers additional programming or grading.
Take an honest inventory of your strengths and weaknesses.
You don’t need to solve everything right now, but be aware. If you’ve historically struggled with multiple choice or legal writing, that’s useful information. You can always supplement with targeted resources if needed.
Use free support early.
We’re hosting free weekly webinars to help you get started the right way. Go to our Free Resources page to see what we have scheduled.
